NOTE: Well, I took the grille pictures finally, but with all
my haste, I took some really crappy pictures. The sun was facing the wrong
way (ie into the camera) so you can't really see how good the grille looks
(it really shines when the sun is on it). Just wanted to let you guys know
that these pictures don't do it justice... There's two more on the bottom
of this page that look a litle better....
Making a Front Grille
Supplies Needed:
- A sheet of Diamond mesh from Home
Depot
- A bottle of "Rust-Oleum" Metallic
paint (silver)
- Used a pocket knif to cut away
existing grille (find the sharpest knife you can).
- Used a drill and some screws
to secure the grille
Steps: 1) Remove
you bumper. Then cut out the existing plastic grille with a knife.
2) Cut out the mesh approx. 1-1.5" bigger than your grille opening.
3) Bend the extra 1-1.5" that you have at a right angle to the plane of
the grille. Keep working with it until it fits nicely and symetrically
into the opening.
4) Fit it in the opening and drill holes in the appropriate places to secure
your grille. Then screw the screws in and viola! your done!
TIPS: You might want to paint the extra tabs where you secured the grille "flat black" so that they can't be seen when you put the bumper on. This will give it a very professional look.
